Rob Bearden – Hortonworks CEO
Rob is the former chief operating officer of both SpringSource and JBoss, two of the most commercially successful open source companies in history. Rob also served in senior roles at Oracle, where he directed a $1 billion sales organization, I2 and Manhattan Associates. He currently sits on the boards of Black Duck and EnterpriseDB, two successful and well-regarded vendors in the open source industry. Rob has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Jacksonville State University and currently holds the title of Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business.
Eric Baldeschwieler – Hortonworks CTO
Prior to co-founding Hortonworks, Eric served as VP Hadoop Software Engineering for Yahoo!, where he led the evolution of Apache Hadoop from a 20 node prototype to a 42,000 node service that is behind every click at Yahoo!. Eric also served as a technology leader for Inktomi’s web service engine, which Yahoo! acquired in 2003. Prior to Inktomi, Eric developed software for video games, video post production systems and 3D modeling systems. Eric has a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University. Paul Cormier – President, Products and Technologies, Red Hat Inc.
Paul Cormier leads Red Hat’s technology and products business units. He joined Red Hat® in May 2001 as executive vice president, Engineering. Cormier’s leadership and experience in enterprise technology has led to the introduction of Red Hat’s acclaimed line of enterprise products, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux®. He has been instrumental in forging tight partnerships with many leading technology companies. Prior to Red Hat, Cormier served as senior vice president of research and development at BindView, helping the company achieve market leadership in 2000. Cormier holds a Master of Science in software development and management from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Peter Fenton – General Partner, Benchmark Capital
Peter Fenton joined Benchmark Capital in 2006 after spending seven years as a partner with Accel Partners. His current investments include DotCloud, EngineYard, Hortonworks, Lithium, New Relic, Pentaho, Polyvore, Twitter, Yelp, Zendesk and Zuora. Among his previous investments were Coremetrics (acquired by IBM), FriendFeed (acquired by Facebook), JBoss (acquired by Red Hat), Reactivity (acquired by Cisco), SpringSource (acquired by VMware), Terracotta (acquired by Software AG), Wily Technology (acquired by CA), Xensource (acquired by Citrix) and Zimbra (acquired by Yahoo!). Peter has an MBA from Stanford Business School and BA from Stanford University.
Jay Rossiter - SVP, Cloud Platform Group, Yahoo!
In his role at Yahoo!, Jay leads the team that has built one of the world’s largest private cloud systems that powers every click on the Yahoo! network. He has successfully led the creation of critical software platforms and is delivering the next generation of cloud services that redefines how Yahoo! leverages technology and science at scale to enable rapid innovation, sustainable product differentiation and new monetization opportunities in the marketplace. Jay is a veteran of the computer industry having worked at organizations such as Bell Laboratories, 3COM Corporation and Oracle Corporation. At Oracle, Jay served as Vice President of the System Management Products Division where he built Oracle’s $400M application and system management business from scratch – nearly quadrupling revenues over four years. Jay holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from SUNY Binghamton and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
Mike Volpi – Partner, Index Ventures
Mike Volpi joined Index Ventures in July 2009. He is a Partner in the San Francisco office, focusing on investments in the Internet, telecom/networking and media sectors. He also contributes to the firm’s later stage growth fund and he currently sits on the boards of Cloud.com, GroupSpaces. Sonos and Storsimple. Mike is also on the board of Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC). Mike has master’s and bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
