Hortonworks was recognized for its innovative leadership in big data, providing a secure and robust Apache Hadoop platform, combined with services and training, to companies looking to utilize Hadoop to meet their data needs.
Management packs for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager will manage and monitor Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), a 100-percent open source data platform powered by Apache Hadoop, for both Windows and Linux deployments. With these management packs, customers will be able to monitor and manage HDP from System Center Operations Manager alongside existing data center deployments and manage HDP from System Center Virtual Machine Manager in virtual and cloud infrastructure deployments.
Designed to meet the needs of mainstream enterprise organizations, HDP 2.0 represents a major step forward in the Apache Hadoop architecture. Specifically, HDP 2.0 Community Preview is the first distribution to include the upcoming beta release of Apache YARN that enables a wide range of data processing applications to run natively in Hadoop with predictable performance and quality of service. The YARN-based architecture of Hadoop 2.0 will enable organizations to take Hadoop beyond its batch-processing roots and deploy specific applications designed to derive greater business value from critical, and often untapped, information.
t the engineering level, NetApp and Hortonworks are working together to create new storage solutions for Hadoop that integrate seamlessly with NetApp E-Series storage systems. The joint development efforts will further expand the Apache Hadoop ecosystem and offer enterprises more choices as NetApp storage systems now integrate with Hortonworks’ 100-percent open source data platform.
MicroStrategy has certified the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) 1.3 with MicroStrategy 9.3.1 in order to provide a solution that enables business users to quickly and easily leverage Hadoop data sources and perform advanced analytics that improve decision-making. HDP 1.3 incorporates the most recent advances from the open source community allowing customers to leverage the latest enterprise-focused Hadoop innovations and optimizations. Hortonworks also joined the MicroStrategy Technology Partner Program in order to have access to MicroStrategy technology, technical resources, marketing and sales support to further accelerate Hadoop as the next-generation data platform.
Working with the ApacheTM Hadoop® Community, the Hortonworks and Red Hat engineering teams will work together to accelerate the enablement of the broader file system ecosystem to be used with Apache Hadoop. The companies also announced the integration and support of Hortonworks Data Platform with Red Hat Storage, which can reduce a Hadoop cluster cost by up to 50 percent since customers can now run Hadoop directly on a POSIX-compliant storage node.
The two-day event, hosted by Hortonworks and Yahoo!, will be held at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif., on June 26-27, and is expected to draw more than 2,700 attendees. This excitement around the event is further proof that Hadoop has matured as a key component of the next generation data architecture. The open source community, corporate enterprises and key partners are all excited about Hadoop 2.0 and YARN driving closer to general availability.
HDP 1.3 incorporates the most recent advancements from the open source community, allowing customers to harness the accelerated rate of innovation around Apache Hadoop and its related projects. In addition to providing a tested, integrated distribution of these projects, this release includes a primary focus on enhancements to Apache Hive, the de-facto standard for SQL access in Hadoop.
The alliance ensures that organizations can take advantage of Splunk® Enterprise and Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) utilizing Splunk Hadoop Connect, which easily and reliably moves data between Splunk Enterprise and Hadoop.
Hortonworks Data Platform for Windows is the only distribution that enables organizations to run Hadoop-based applications natively on Windows and Linux, providing a common user experience and interoperability across operating systems. Customers will also have complete portability of their Hadoop applications between on-premises and cloud deployments via HDP for Windows and Microsoft’s Windows Azure HDInsight Service. HDP for Windows offers the millions of customers running their businesses on Microsoft technologies an ecosystem friendly Hadoop-based solution that integrates with familiar business analytics tools such as Microsoft Excel, and is built for the enterprise and Windows.
