HDInsight Service Goes GA Bringing Production Ready Apache Hadoop on Windows to the Cloud

Today our strategic partner Microsoft announced the General Availability of HDInsight Service: the Azure based enterprise Hadoop cloud service is now ready for production workloads! We are excited to see this service move into general availability as a key milestone in a longstanding engineering partnership between our two organizations.

Application Portability: Deploy Hadoop On-Premise and/or Scale with the Cloud

With HDP for Windows and HDInsight Service there is unprecedented choice for Windows enterprises for their Hadoop deployments. HDP for Windows is the Microsoft recommended platform for Hadoop on Windows Server environments. For cloud-based deployments HDInsight Service is a 100% compatible and scalable environment for deploying your Hadoop based applications – meaning that your HDP based applications can be moved seamlessly to HDInsight on Azure.

With the integration of Microsoft’s own business-intelligence tools, such as Excel, SQL Server and PowerBI, then building out applications to satisfy these types of use cases become more applicable than ever.

Another milestone in HDP adoption

The HDInsight GA is yet another milestone in the Hadoop ecosystem rallying around Hortonworks Data Platform as the industry standard for building and deploying Hadoop services. Given the increase in interest and production deployments for Hadoop on Windows that we are seeing we can anticipate strong interest in this cloud offering from Microsoft.

A hearty congratulations to Microsoft is in order.
