Hortonworks Data Platform Version 2.2 represents yet another major step forward for Hadoop as the foundation of a Modern Data Architecture. This release incorporates the last six months of innovation and includes more than a hundred new features and closes thousands of issues across Apache Hadoop and its related projects.

Our approach at Hortonworks is to enable a Modern Data Architecture with YARN as the architectural center, supported by key capabilities required of an enterprise data platform — spanning Governance, Security and Operations.…

Today we announced an alliance agreement with Avanade, a business technology, cloud and managed services provider, to build new big data solutions and services based on Microsoft technologies. Avanade’s data analytics deployments for enterprise clients with Microsoft Windows Server and Azure environments will turn to Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) on Windows and Microsoft Azure HDInsight – Microsoft’s 100 percent Apache Hadoop-based service in the Azure cloud.

Together, Hortonworks and Avanade will help customers with their journey to a Modern Data Architecture on Windows.…

A panel of reviewers made up of InfoWorld Test Center editors and industry experts selected Apache Storm as a winner for 2014’s InfoWorld Bossie award. The “Bossies” identify the Best of Open Source Software every year. These Bossie awards celebrate game-changing open source software projects in different domains, and the panel selected Apache Storm in the Big Data Tools category.

This is the first year that a streaming computation framework has been selected in the Big Data category, which is a tribute to Apache Storm’s broad industry adoption and versatility. …

Apache Tez has been selected as a winner for 2014’s InfoWorld Bossie award. The “Bossies” identify the Best of Open Source software every year and are awarded by a panel of InfoWorld Test Center editors and industry expert reviewers. The Bossie awards celebrate game-changing open source software projects in different domains, and Apache Tez was selected in the Big Data Tools category.

Last year, Apache Hadoop with YARN as its architectural center was awarded a Bossie.…

Over the last several months, Oracle and Hortonworks have been working together to bring ETL tools and connectors to the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP). Hortonworks and Oracle have teamed up to provide comprehensive data integration capabilities and technologies that lay the foundation for a modern data integration architecture, delivering on the promise of big data for customers of all sizes and scale.

We’re happy to announce that the Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is now certified with the HDP 2.1.…

Hortonworks’ strategy, since our inception, has been extremely consistent: enable a modern data architecture whereby users have the ability to store data in a single location and interact with it in multiple ways – using the right data processing engine at the right time.  At the core of that strategy is YARN, which as a part of Apache Hadoop, allows multiple data processing engines to interact with data stored in a single platform, unlocking an entirely new approach to analytics.…

In April of this year, Hortonworks, along with the broad Hadoop community delivered the final phase of the Stinger Initiative on schedule, completing the work to bring interactive SQL query to Apache Hive.  The original directive of Stinger was about advancing SQL capabilities at petabyte scale in pure open source. And over 13 months, 145 developers from 44 companies delivered exactly that, contributing over 390,000 lines of code to the Hive project alone.…

Since our founding in mid-2011, our vision for Hadoop has been that “half the world’s data will be processed by Hadoop”. With that long-term vision in mind, we focus on the mission to establish Hadoop as the foundational technology of the modern enterprise data architecture that unlocks a whole new class of data-driven applications that weren’t previously possible.

We use what we call the “Blueprint for Enterprise Hadoop” for guiding how we invest in Hadoop-related open source technologies as well as enabling the key integration points that are important for deploying Enterprise Hadoop within a modern data architecture, on-premises or in the cloud, in a way that enables the business and its users to maximize the value from their data.…

A transformation is occurring in the data center.  Enterprises are turning to a modern data architecture in order to derive maximum value from both big and small data across their organization.  They are building new analytic apps that unlock opportunity and allow them to maintain or create competitive edge. Apache Hadoop is at the center of this architecture and integrates with the technologies that run your business to augment and extend this new value.…

There are many projects that have been contributed to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) by both vendors and users alike that greatly expand Apache Hadoop’s capabilities as an enterprise data platform.

While Hadoop – with YARN at its architectural center – provides the foundational capabilities for managing and accessing data at scale, a broader blueprint for Enterprise Hadoop has emerged that specifies how this array of Apache projects fit across five distinct pillars to form a complete enterprise data platform: data access, data management, security, operations and governance.…

Today we are excited to announce a deepening of our strategic partnership with HP . This news builds on the reseller partnership that we established in 2013 enabling HP to resell the Hortonworks Data Platform. It also allows us to build on the HP AllianceOne ConvergedSystems Partner of the Year Award that we received at the recent HP Discover 2014 conference for our strategic partnership.

Given the rapid adoption of Enterprise Hadoop as a core component of a modern data architecture combined with the fact that HP is the world’s leading server vendor in terms of shipments AND revenues according to IDC – meaning a significant number of those Hadoop nodes are being deployed with HP technologies – it’s hardly surprising that we’ve been collaborating closely.…

Today we are delighted to announce the formal partnership between Accenture and Hortonworks, which is the continuing evolution of the ongoing collaboration between the two companies which started in 2012. With this formal agreement, Accenture and Hortonworks will collaborate on making large structured and unstructured datasets – including operational, video and sensor data – more accessible to organizations for insight-driven decision-making. Together, the two companies will continue to collaborate on joint horizontal and vertical solutions to speed the adoption of Apache Hadoop.…

Today, we announce certification of Apache Spark as YARN Ready. This certification ensures memory and CPU intensive Spark-based applications can co-exist within a single Hadoop cluster with all the other workloads you have deployed. Together, they allow you to use a single cluster with a single set of data for multiple purposes rather than silo your Spark workloads into a separate cluster.
