HDP on Linux – Installation Forum

A question on factoring out the HMC

    Hi All,

I have successfully deployed the hadoop stack with HMC on a single node.
Is it possible to decouple the deployment part and the monitoring/management part of HMC, i.e., to factor out and use the monitoring/management part of HMC and leave the deployment to other tools?

    Thanks

    Hi Weiming,

The guidance is to leave those components enabled, and instead configure your existing monitoring / alert services to received updates from nagios and ganglia.

    Hi @Sasha,

I don’t have an integrated monitoring/management solution (like that provided by HMC) at hand.
I want to keep the hadoop stack i have installed by myself (not by HMC) on my nodes, while leverage only the monitoring/management part of HMC.
Is it possible to do that?

    Thanks

    Hi Weiming,

You can not use HMC to only install the monitoring components, without any of the Hadoop components.

As you probably know, Ganglia and Nagios are both freely available, and are also open source.
