Sorry, I meant the same original error message occurred again.
Tried dropping the hive schema and still fails with the same original message.
    I’m attaching the ambari-agent.log (ambari-agent.out is empty).
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,

Thanks for trying this again. From output in last comment it is not clear what failed. Can you please provide ambari-agent.log and ambari-agent.out file? One more thing you can try is to drop hive database and hive users that you crated prior to uninstalling MySQL.

    Thanks,
    Seth

    Uninstalled mysql and mysql-client.
Removed all the packages and restarted the installation process.
It still fails at that point, but what is interesting is the mysql and msql-client packages get installed.

    Hi David,

I think there might be an issue here. We are looking further into this. For now you can try to uninstall mysql and mysql-client and have Ambari install and setup MySQL during installation process. Can you please give it a try?

Please let us know if this is helpful.

    Thanks,
    Seth

Yes, I made sure mysql was running, created database hive and user hive and put in those credentials in the installation setup so that Ambari would not need to install mysql-server/mysql-client. It still failed with the same original error message. I even tried using the mysql root user to give it full control and the same issue occured.
    Thanks,
    David

    HI David,

Since you already have MySQL installed. During the install there is a point where you point Ambari at your running MySQL instance. Did you do this? If you leave this field blank Ambari will try to install MySQL for you, thinking that you don’t currently have it installed. Note: The MySQL server needs to be running at the time of install.

    Thanks,
    Ted.

    Hi David,

Is that a list of Installed packages, or a listing of available packages? What do you get when you run

    zypper info mysql ?

    Thanks,
    Ted.

    It’s SUSE 11 sp1.
And in this case, it is just a single node setup for now.

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,
What version of SUSE are you using? Also is this for single node setup?

    Thank you for your update.
I ran the following commands and installed the mysql packages using zypper. I also provided the Ambari setup with th e mysql login/db credentials to have Ambari skip the mysql install portion, but the same error occurs indicating that it cannot find the package “mysql-client”. I was thinking it could have something to do with the casing because on the linux server, it shows as “MySQL-client”.
Please let me know what else to try or if there is a log I could get to provide more details. Nothing is stated inside the ambari-server or ambari-agent log files.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,

Please run zypper clean first and rerun the Ambari installation after that. If the problem persist install the mysql packages with zypper and see if if all of the packages installed successfully and there are no decencies failures. and Run the Ambari installation gain. Hope this helps.

    Thanks
