Problem corrected. I was using some puppet agent commands (developed by a co-worker) to add software into the sandbox and one of the added pieces required a new jar for HADOOP_CLASSPATH. The puppet manifest file didn’t set up the addition for this in the script hadoop-env.sh properly. And so the HIVEMETASTORE jar that was needed to support beeswax proper launch was missing.

When we fixed the hadoop env file and restarted, hive started cleanly this time and the beeswax tab was operational.

    James,
looks like something went wrong after rebooting the VM….
Could you login into it and make sure that IP you use is correct, and beeswax process is running and listening on right port?
    Based on this error:
Connecting to 192.168.108.128:8000… failed: Connection refused.
it seems like process is not running…

Try to reboot your VM one more time?

    Thank you!
    Sasha
