Error Accessing Hive Metastore Status After Change hadoop.tmp.dir

    In an effort to fix another issue with running out of local disk space during shuffle/merge operations, we decided to add the hadoop.tmp.dir attribute to the config. Upon restarting of the services, I’m getting the following in Ambari:

    Hive Metastore status CRIT for about an hour
    CRITICAL: Error accessing Hive Metastore status [Error creating temp dir in hadoop.tmp.dir /data/tmp due to Permission denied]

    Everything else seems to be able to access it just fine. I’m not seeing anything in the logs, although I don’t know if I’m looking at the right ones (Hive mainly).

    This can be disregarded. Thought I had changed the permissions on all servers but I had missed one.
