    Hi,

I’m getting the error below when starting Ambari. I’m trying to install on a single node as a playground environment for now, passwordless ssh is configured, hostname seems OK. Any ideas??

    Thanks

11:35:49,691 ERROR Configuration:627 – Cannot read password for alias = null

11:35:57,095 ERROR AmbariServer:457 – Failed to run the Ambari Server

    Hi Dave,

I created a table in hive

    > su hive
    hive> create table test2(a int, b string);
    OK
    Time taken: 0.696 seconds

Then I looked at the hdfs /apps directory

    [hive@hdp132 log]$ hadoop fs -ls /apps/hive
    Found 1 items
    drwxrwxr-x – hive hdfs 0 2013-10-03 21:04 /apps/hive/warehouse

So the hive directory was created with userid hive
    Thanks,
    Koelli

I’ve havechanged the /tmp directory so it matches yours & the hive user is in the hadoop group. I’m still getting the WRITE not permitted error.

As a test I’ve changed the /apps directory to chmod 777 and now the create staement works.

    Thanks

    Dave

    Hi David,

Can you check what groups the user hive is in?

Also, your /tmp directory in HDFS should be 777 , can you change this? This is how it is on my HDP 1.3.2 system,

    bash-4.1$ hadoop fs -ls /
    Found 5 items
    drwxr-xr-x – hdfs hdfs 0 2013-09-10 22:44 /apps
    drwx—— – mapred hdfs 0 2013-09-23 22:37 /mapred
    drwxr-xr-x – hdfs hdfs 0 2013-09-19 11:38 /test
    drwxrwxrwx – hdfs hdfs 0 2013-09-24 15:22 /tmp
    drwxr-xr-x – hdfs hdfs 0 2013-09-24 15:21 /user

    Thanks,
    Koelli

    Hi,

I’m following the validate Hive installation http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP1/HDP-1.3.2/bk_installing_manually_book/content/rpm-chap6-5.html
I’m logged in as the Hive user and I’m running the create table test(col1 int, col2 string); command within a hive session.

The output of haddoop dfs -ls /
    hdfs@yoda:/home/sap> hadoop dfs -ls /
    Found 5 items
    drwxr-xr-x – hdfs hdfs 0 2013-10-01 17:24 /apps
    drwx—— – mapred hdfs 0 2013-10-01 15:57 /mapred
    drwxr-xr-x – hdfs hdfs 0 2013-10-01 11:41 /test
    drwxr-xr-x – hdfs hdfs 0 2013-10-01 14:40 /tmp
    drwxr-xr-x – hdfs hdfs 0 2013-10-01 17:23 /user

    Thanks

    Hi Dave,

What command is giving you the hdfs access error?
Also if you log in as hdfs and do a hadoop dfs -ls /
what re the permissions & groups on the filesystem?

    Thanks

    Dave

Thanks for the response. SSH is configured.

I’ve now gone down the route of manually installing the RPM’s. I’ve just installed Hive and I’m getting an error when testing it.

Authorization failed:org.apache.hadoop.security.AccessControlException: action WRITE not permitted on path hdfs://YODA:8020/ for user hive. Use show grant to get more details.

I’m following the instructions to the letter. hive user’s primary group is hadoop.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

    Hi Dave,

If you ssh to itself, are you asked for a password?
An easy way to avoid the passwordless ssh is to run ‘yum install ambari-agent’ and then ‘ambari-agent start’

Then ambari will use the agent to install & configure the cluster.

    Thanks
