Just want to bring to your notice a issue with regard to starting zookeeper (/usr/lib/zookeeper/bin/zkServer.sh start /etc/zookeeper/conf/zoo.cfg)
I am following the “Hadoop manual installation document”. Though in the beginning of the document under section “Define Directories for Ecosystem Components” the ZOOKEEPER_DATA_DIR is set to “/grid1/hadoop/zookeeper/data” in the later part of the document when the actual installation is happening the document only asks to change server.1, .2 and .3 parameters in zoo.cfg to reflect the zookeeper server. As a result the default setting for dataDir remains unchanged to /var/zookeeper/data as shown below.
Now starting zookeeper throws below exception stating that it doesn’t have the permission to create directory, which is correct due to the fact that /var is under root hence using a relative path like this ‘dataDir=../zookeper/data/’ solved the problem other way would be to try starting zookeeper as sudo.
This is a very small issue but still thought to give a heads-up.
