    I have installed hadoop-2.2.0.2.0.6.0-76 on Ubuntu-12.04 and also installed additional components like hbase-0.96.0.2.0.6.0-76-hadoop2, pig-0.12.0.2.0.6.0-76, hive-0.12.0.2.0.6.0-76. I have installed and configured mysql-5.5 and create user and password for login. Create database and tables inside it using mysql shell. When I am trying to use access same tables using hive shell, it gives me below error:

    hive> show tables;
    FAILED: Execution Error, return code 1 from org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.exec.DDLTask. java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to instantiate org.apache.hadoop.hive.metastore.HiveMetaStoreClient.

    I am just about to start something similar, but with Ubuntu 14.04 server. Did you solve your problems?
