My install HDP2 thru Ambari on Linux is good and everything working good. I had the firewall down.
But since everything was stable for weeks, I tried to bring the firewall up after configuring all the ports.
After configuring the ports, including port for snmp I was able to bring the firewall up without issuing any alerts.
So now my Ambari dashboard looks good..No alerts

But when the firewall is up,
My Hive query (simple select count(*) from table) runs forever, the map task completes to 100% and then comes back to 0% and so on and runs forever.more than 45 minutes..
Once I bring the firewall down, the same query finishes in 13 secs.
Why is the firewall causing this issue ? I posted this in Hive forum, but was asked to post here as its related to ports and firewall.

    Please advice.

I tried debugging today and ran a simple hive count(*) from a table when the firewall is up,
I found thats it connecting randomly port to 17472 which is not listed at all in the documentation.
And so the query was hanging as expected… when I brought it down, it wrapped up in secs.

Why is it trying to use ports randomly apart from whats mentioned on the install doc.. and how can I refine it to use a selected list of ports?
I dont see any alerts in ambari.
    Please advice.
