I’m currently having an issue where MapReduce is using the root drive, /tmp even after specifying the following in the core-site.xml and mapred-site.xml config files:

    hadoop.tmp.dir
    /data/tmp

    and

    mapreduce.jobtracker.system.dir
    ${hadoop.tmp.dir}/mapred/system

    mapreduce.cluster.temp.dir
    ${hadoop.tmp.dir}/mapred/temp

    mapreduce.jobtracker.staging.root.dir
    ${hadoop.tmp.dir}/mapred/staging

    mapreduce.cluster.local.dir
    ${hadoop.tmp.dir}/mapred/local

Am I missing another property? Do the directories under /data/tmp have to already exist?
