guava dependency in HDP 1.3?

    I was surprised to see the guava-11.0.2.jar in the /usr/lib/hadoop/lib directory of the HDP 1.3 sandbox VM. Some of my MapReduce jobs use a newer version of guava, and it seems like they are now picking up this older version instead (causing problems).

    guava is not in my vanilla Apache Hadoop 1.2.1 install. is this an HDP-specific dependency, and is it expected to pre-empt client submitted jars in the classloaders for a MR job?

    Actually I found related job configuration properties that help, “mapreduce.job.user.classpath.first” and “mapreduce.user.classpath.first” depending on the Hadoop version.

    I’ve tried to export HADOOP_USER_CLASSPATH_FIRST, but it doesn’t seem to help. I submitted a job from Java instead of through the command line.

    Should the above export still have an effect?

    If it causes a problem you can “export HADOOP_USER_CLASSPATH_FIRST=true”
