After Hive 0.11 was released Teradata raised concerns that the npath function infringed on their trademark and patents (see http://apache.org/foundation/records/minutes/2013/board_minutes_2013_06_19.txt). Apache is working with Teradata to resolve these concerns. To avoid any issues with HDP we removed npath from HDP 1.3. Once Apache and Teradata come to an agreement on how to proceed HDP once again match Apache Hive in this respect.

HDP 1.3 – npath function removed
I am running HDP 1.3 with Hive 0.11 and I want to use the built-in windowing/PTF functions of Hive 0.11.
I can successfully run test scripts “ptf_general_queries.q” and “ptf.q” from Hive’s source-trunk https://github.com/apache/hive/blob/ptf-windowing/ql/src/test/queries/clientpositive/
However I am especially interested in the npath implementation – that is test script “ptf_npath.q”
According to the release notes of HDP 1.3 (http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP1/HDP-1.3.0/bk_releasenotes_hdp_1.x/content/ch_relnotes-hdp1.3.0_2_patch-info-hive.html),
npath was removed.
Does anybody know why it was removed?
And can you give me some advice on an easy way to add it again to HDP 1.3?
