HDP on Linux – Installation Forum

HDP installation on vmware linux expected problems

  • #27761

I would like to install HDP and Hadoop on VM servers (but not physical servers), for building POC only.
As I know HDFS has some performance/networking problems when installed on VM servers.
Is it may be a serious problem for my POC running? Does exist another known problems for Hadoop running on VM servers?

    Hi David,
    thank you for trying HDP!.
Yes, performance problems may happen on VM installation, but it mostly relied to Amazon EC2 services.
If you use ESX server and create VMs on it, there should not be a problem at all.
In anycase, HDP on VMWare system works perfectly fine and fully supported.

Do not hesitate, go ahead and install it!

    Thank you!

    Hi Sasha,
Thank you for your answer. Have you recommendations for VM setting for HDP? CPU, Memory, disks?

    Hi David,

The recommendations we have for each VM are:
CPUs – as many as you can give it, but at least 2
    RAM – at least 4GB
Disk Space – this really depends on how much data you are going to store, but at least 20GB.
