I am trying to install HDP 1.1.0 for Windows Beta on Windows 2008 R2 server VM. I am trying to install entire HDP eco system in one server: NAMENODE,SECONDARY_NAMENODE,JOBTRACKER,HIVE_SERVER,OOZIE_SERVER,TEMPLETON and SLAVE. I am getting the following error and installation is stopped. I made sure that I followed all the steps on the documentation. Any ideas?

CustomAction CheckPreReq returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
    MainEngineThread is returning 1603

I tried running the command prompt as administrator . The disk is not write protected and has 470 GB free.

    Hi Sathiyan,

Can you uninstall all the past installations, delete all the files that is in the installation dirs, then try install the latest release of hdp 1.1 for windows? The documentation has been updated as well. Make sure there is no data in the installation dirs before the installation.

    Thanks,
    Yi

I used powershell and installation still failed. I have FTPd the error log :25645_install_log_0520.txt to ftp . support . hortonworks . com.

    Hi Sathiyan,

I just noticed in your initial post, you mention that you “tried running command prompt as the administrator” do you mean from that that you are attempting this install in the command prompt and not in a powershell session? It should be in a powershell session run as the administrator.

    Thanks,
    Ted.

This is the vM in our trusted network. I executed ipconfig command on the server and did n’t find any IPV6 addresses.

    Hi Sathiyan,

No, using a VM should not cause an issue as that’s how I’ve done my test installs. Is this VM and Amazon EC2 VM? there are some things that need to be configured properly for these VMs to work. Did you mean that you made sure that there are NO ipv6 addresses?

    Thanks,
    Ted.

I ran ipconfig command against my server and made sure there are IPV6 addresses. Also, I am aware that IPV6 is disabled globally in my environment.

I am using Windows VM. Would that an issue?

    Hi Sathiyan,

Did you disable ipv6 or at least set your machine to prefer ipv4? Disabling ipv6 is best. You can tell if it is disabled by looking at the output of ‘ipconfig’, if there are ipv6 addresses in the output it is not disabled.

    Thanks,
    Ted.

I made sure the host IP is in IPV4 format. I have also changed the data directory as mentioned in your post. No change. I FTPd the log file to your FTP site:file name:25645_Install_log.txt.

    Hi Sathiyan,

Here are few things you can try:

    – HDP_DIR should be in non-shared location. Can you please try to change it something like D:\Workstation\Hadoop_Data ?

    – Please make sure that hostnames resolve to IPv4 IP. You can try to ping by hostname and make sure that it resolves to correct IPv4 IP.

Please give it another try with suggestions above and upload log and provide command you used if this does not resolve your issue.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks,
    Seth

    Hi Sathiyan,

Can you please provide the command that you are using to launch the installer? Sometimes bad character in command can cause this issue. Also, can you please check if you have more complete log that was generated when you launched the installer?

    Thanks,
    Seth
