    On windows I see this error when hive cli is started.

    D:\Apps\java\BI\hadoop\hw\hdp\hive-0.12.0.2.0.6.0-0009\bin>hive
    Exception in thread “main” java.io.IOException: Mkdirs failed to create file:\D:
    \Apps\java\BI\hadoop\hw\hdpdata\hdfs\tmp
    at org.apache.hadoop.util.RunJar.ensureDirectory(RunJar.java:111)
    at org.apache.hadoop.util.RunJar.main(RunJar.java:159)

    Any clues what is wrong

    Opps..

    it was error in defining tmp dir property core-site.xml

    <property>
    <name>hadoop.tmp.dir</name>
    <value>/tmp/hadoop-${user.name}</value>
    </property>

    changed to above value it solved.
