When I have a syntax error in a hive query executed via beeswax, I get a “Error occurred executing hive query: Unknown exception.”
Seems similar to blog posts http://hortonworks.com/community/forums/topic/beeswax-wont-return-data/ and http://hortonworks.com/community/forums/topic/error-in-loading-data-into-sandbox-tutorial6/, but these threads have no useful answer.
I don’t understand why this error is not discussed more, because it is so easy to reproduce… Can reproduce with syntax errors like “QSDFKHQK” or just forget ‘INTO’ in ‘INSERT INTO TABLE’.
I can reproduce on HDP2 sandbox, and on a fresh install of HDP2 on a real cluster. Hue version 2.3.0-76
Of course, the ‘view logs’ link is of no help. First because it’s only accessible to hue super-user. And second, be cause the logs are so esoteric and awful.
Here under some logs grabbed in ‘view logs’ : http://pastebin.com/dsuxTef2
