ROOT CAUSE: If user runs an installer with DESTROY_DATA=NO option, the installer will not crete NameNode directories. You should see similar error in NameNode log:

2013-08-22 14:29:14,228 ERROR org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.NameNode: org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.common.InconsistentFSStateException: Directory C:\hadoop_data\hdfs\nn is in an inconsistent state: storage directory does not exist or is not accessible.
    at org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.FSImage.recoverTransitionRead(

    1. Open the “Hadoop Command Line” Command Prompt shortcut.
    2. Run the following command that sets up the NameNode directories: “hadoop namenode -format”
