I have mostly used Ubuntu before, rather new to Redhat. After downloading the redhat 5.9 (30 days trial version) and create a VM, I followed the manual installation instruction

    http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP1/HDP-1.2.0/bk_installing_manually_book/content/rpm-chap1.html

However, the installation failed very early – could not even find the hadoop package:

    Any suggestions?

    Hi, J

Unfortunately, yes, HDP only supports 64 bits.

yes you are right – my VM is running RHEL i386 version
Just checked my windows – the system type is x64-based, so I guess I can try to create a 64-bit RHEL

Does HDP only support 64-bit system? It seems so based on the documents.

    Hi, J

    Thanks for trying HDP.

I am wondering if your system and OS is 64 bits. Can you please check?

Silly me – just noticed the “This system is not registered to Red Hat Subscription Management. You can use subscription-manager to register.”

Guess that is the reason –
