When we start the Namenode component from Ambari GUI – the below error is logged in var/log/hadoop/hdfs/hadoop-hdfs-namenode-HDP1_3-Saturn-NN1.log”

    2013-08-19 16:24:45,928 ERROR org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.NameNode: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Does not contain a valid host:port authority: hdfs://HDP1_3-Saturn-NN1:8020
    at org.apache.hadoop.net.NetUtils.createSocketAddr(NetUtils.java:164)
    at org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.NameNode.getAddress(NameNode.java:214)
    at org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.NameNode.getAddress(NameNode.java:246)
    at org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.NameNode.initialize(NameNode.java:282)

    ——————————————

At NameNode the server-ip is resolved fine.
    >ping HDP1_3-Saturn-NN1
    PING HDP1_3-Saturn-NN1 (xxx.xxx.x.x) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from HDP1_3-Saturn-NN1 (xxx.xxx.x.xx): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.026 ms

Please let us know few pointers how this can be debugged.

Absolutely the same issue in my configuration of HDP1.3 from four nodes on CentOS6…

    2013-08-20 14:17:09,792 ERROR org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.server.namenode.NameNode: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Does not contain a valid host:port authority: hdfs://horton_name.home.local:8020

Installed without errors and warnings on the last starting NameNode stage.

Resolved: Worked after Changing server name with no uppercase and only alphanumeric [ removed dash and underscore ]
Curious to know if there are restrictions on SERVER names to be used in HDP clusters

Just repeated installation in minimal configuration (HDFS only).

I fixed host names and re-installed. Now it is working perfect. Thanks.
