    Hello,

I have been struggling with this for a while. I assume it is a network setup issue on the virtual machine, but haven’t been able to figure it out.

    Host: Windows 8 laptop
    VM: VirtualBox, Hortonworks Sandbox

    VirtualBox Network Settings:
    Host-only Adapter: 192.168.170.1, 255.255.255.0
    DHCP Server: 192.168.170.1, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.170.101, 192.168.170.110

    Virtual Machine Network Settings:
    Adapter 1: NAT
    Adapter 2: Host-only Adapter

After Virtual Machine startup, eth1 settings:
    inet addr: 192.168.170.102

    ODBC Driver settings (32-bit Windows):
    Host: 192.168.170.102
    Port: 10000
    Database: default
Hive Server Type: Hive Server 2
    Auth/Mechanism: User Name
    User Name: sandbox

    Results of ODBC Test:
    Driver Version: V1.3.19.0013
    Running connectivity tests…

    Attempting connection
    Failed to establish connection
    SQLSTATE: HY000[Hortonworks][HiveODBC]
    (34) Error from Hive: connect() failed: errno = 10060
    TESTS COMPLETED WITH ERROR.

    Thanks for your help,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
Can you verify the hiveserver2 port where the hiveserver2 process is running?

    Regards,
    Robert

Try to change the Port to 10001 and let us know if it works.

Hello. I changed the Port in the ODBC driver setup to 10001, but I still get the same error.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks for your help!

I had problems setting up JDBC with Sandbox 2.2.4.2 and it was because it “wasn’t enough” just to restart stale Hive configs. I restarted the entire Sandbox and JDBC using http/cliservice/port10001 then worked.
