ODBC Connection Error

    I have installed Hive ODBC driver version 1.2 on my windows host machine. Hadoop version 1.0.3 resides on Linux server. My goal is to test connectivity using Hive odbc driver on windows to the hive server on linux. In my hive-site.xml I found hive port as 9083. Hive version on hadoop cluster is 0.9. It does not have hive
    server2 feature.

    From my windows client machine when I try to connect to the Hive on linux server I get the following error
    Test Results
    Failed to establish connection
    SQLSTATE: HY000[Hortonworks][Hardy] (34) Error from Hive: ETIMEDOUT.

    Here is the configuration I used in the ODBC driver
    Host: IP
    port : 9083
    Hive Server Type: Hive Server 2
    Mechanism: Username

    I have earlier tried to user Hive Server Type = Hive Server 1 but it did not work either.

    Do we need to do any setup for ODBC on linux server before we install the ODBC driver on windows machine?

    Please help me with this.

    Hi Srikanth,

    port 9083 by default is used by hive metastore, not hive server or hive server2. Can you check if hiveserver is really running and if it is, configure odbc to use port 1000 which is the default hive server/2 port if not set to other value?
