I figured it out Dave! It was a stupid rights issues on the laptop and msi installs by default doesnt let you run as administrator. The error was misleading, the file didnt have write access but it said it was a local disk issue.

It was fixed with this reg file that lets me execute msi files with adminstrator rights

Thanks for all your help, we can cancel Tuesday obviously

I would very much appreciate that, I’m free in the afternoon or next Mon-Wed.
Would it be easier if we traded contacts offline? There’s no private messaging feature on the forum. Here’s my email info@mindgnosis.com

    Hi Vinh,

I’ve just installed this on windows 2008 R2 64 bit, 64 bit driver, C:\ and 1 D:\ (optical) with no issues.
What version of windows are you running on your laptop?

Can you run (from where you have the msi)

    msiexec /i “HortonworksHiveODBC64.msi” /l*v .\HWXdriver.log

Try and attach any errors you see in this logfile.

It looks specific to msiexec at this point and not our driver per se.

    Thanks

    Dave

    Hi Vinh,

I have not seen this issue before, where did you download the driver from – the website?
Is it 32 or 64 bit windows?
Do you have 1 drive or multiple drives?

I will test this out, however the msi usually installs correctly

    Thanks

    Dave
