Hortonworks Sandbox Forum

Sandbox with mahout

  • #15022

I am just starting with hadoop and I am finding hortonworks helpful in my learning process.

What I would like to know is if it is possible to use mahout in the sandbox to process the data I want.

    Hi Joao,

    Thanks for trying the Sandbox.

Currently Mahout is not included in the Sandbox.

    Thanks,
    Ted.

Joao, There is no UI for Mahout but you can actually use it from the command line. You can either get a command line from HUE or log in via ssh/console.

Once you do that you can run:
    yum install mahout

Then you can use Mahout on the command line.

    Thanks Carter,

    That was very useful!

    May I get some clarification?
Even though Mahout is not included in the sandbox, does it mean:
    a) It can not be run on the Sandbox?
    b) Or does it mean I can still install/add… to run it?

    Hi Vinh,

    See Carter’s post:
“There is no UI for Mahout but you can actually use it from the command line. You can either get a command line from HUE or log in via ssh/console.

    Thanks

    Dave
