Wouldn’t it be better to have proper startup script like init.d.
All hadoop related services could be lauchned properly without options and being sure that the service run with the correct user …

    Hi, Vladislav

It is a good idea. Let me find out if this feature has been in our roadmap.

    Vladislav Pernin

I hope it is, CDH 4 has such script and it is really practical and safer.

    Hi Vladislav,

These scripts could possibly interfere with Ambari control of the cluster. If the cluster is controlled through Ambari then it will also be launched with all the proper options and the correct user. But if you do not wish to use Ambari to manage the cluster these scripts are not that difficult to create.

    Vladislav Pernin

    Ok, you’re right.
I just thought Ambari would use the same script.
When Ambari would be ready for HDP 2 ?

    Hi Vladislav,

All I can say on that is that it is definitely on our schedule, but I cannot give any specifics. Keep your eyes on the announcements forum.

FWIW – I really prefer letting the OS manage the services. HDP isn’t the only thing we’re supporting and if there’s a problem, we know how to debug init scripts. Ambari is a big black box that makes it hard to troubleshoot failure. IMHO – Ambari should delegate to OS-native service management.
