HDP on Linux – Installation Forum

Ubuntu support timeline

  • #14388

Hi, I’d love to have our company use Hortonworks, but Ubuntu support is a dealbreaker for us. Are there any plans to add Ubuntu support and does anyone know what a rough timeline for that is?

There is no plans for supporting Ubuntu in a near future.
However, you can use tarballs to install HDP, this way it will work on Ubuntu.
It will not be supported, but you can use it.

    Thank you!

    Hi Benjamin,

Ubuntu support is in our plans, but we have not set a specific time frame yet.

by the way, could you tell us your company name?

    Thank you!

I’m with Connectifier. I also lead the Orange County MongoDB user group with about 150 people in it and we’re likely hosting an upcoming session about running map reduces against MongoDB.

    Thank you!

Here’s the meetup page. We’re having Russ from Hortonworks as our speaker:

Thank you for the information, Benjamin!
Will that meetup be recorded and shared somewhere?
It will be nice to see and hear it …

    Thank you!

We haven’t recorded any of our meetups yet. Might not be a bad idea though! I’m curious if there’s any update on the Ubuntu support timeline yet?

    Hi, Ben

We still have no timeline for Ubuntu support.

Is there a particular reason that prevent you from trying centos (free too)?

Wanted to check back since it’s been quite awhile. Has Ubuntu support been discussed at all? All of our machines are currently running Ubuntu and I’d rather not support two different operating systems since all of out puppet configs, etc. have been tested only on Ubuntu.
