Unable to start PostgreSQL server

  • #52218
    Kevin Zhang

I try to set up Ambari server on CentOs 6.2. The version of Ambari I ‘m installing is 1.5.1.

    I got error like following:

    “About to start PostgreSQL
ERROR: Exiting with exit code 1.
REASON: Unable to start PostgreSQL server. Exiting”

I tried re-installing postgresql with command
    “yum install postgresql”

But after that, i still got same error.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Kevin,

I am getting the same error (exit code 127) on RHEL 5.9 – Ambari 1.5.1:
While installing Ambari-server on an offline RHEL 5.9 server through a Red Hat satellite server I am getting the issue below:

    Checking JDK…
Do you want to change Oracle JDK [y/n] (n)? n
    Completing setup…
    Configuring database…
    Enter advanced database configuration [y/n] (n)? n
Default properties detected. Using built-in database.
    Checking PostgreSQL…
Running initdb: This may take upto a minute.
    About to start PostgreSQL
ERROR: Exiting with exit code 127.
REASON: Unable to start PostgreSQL server. Exiting

PostgreSQL is successfully running, initdb works and the version is correct (installed by yum install ambari-server).
Postgres has been installed by the default dir /var/lib/pgsql etc.

    Did you solve this issue?

If you run “service postgresql start”, what do you get?

    Jeff Sposetti

Also, can you check the log file in here /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_log and check the content in here /var/lib/pgsql/pgstartup.log ?

–> In initdb is started with env in stead of /sbin/env, modified the .py script and it’s rocking now!

Please see if /var/log has enough space. I got the above error as /var log was 100%.
