    Hi Sasha,
I try to install HDP1 via HMC in pseudo distribution mode (Under VMware vSphere 5.0 with CentOS 6.3 64bit OS with 4G RAM) but it always failed, I have try the following method you provided but still in vain.
    yum -y erase hmc puppet
    yum -y install hmc
    service hmc start
Finally, I use the check.sh mentioned in “http://hortonworks.com/community/forums/topic/hmc-installation-support-help-us-help-you/ “and generated the report.

I have uploaded the following log files to hortonworks’ FTP server
    -rw-r–r– 1 root root 154863 2012-12-10 17:24 check.sh_HDP1_James.log
    -rw-r–r– 1 root root 359390 2012-12-10 17:26 hmc_HDP1_James.log
    -rw-r—– 1 root root 21832 2012-12-10 17:27 puppet_agent_http_HDP1_James.log
    -rw-r–r– 1 root root 5014655 2012-12-10 17:28 puppet_agent_HDP1_James.log
    -rw-r–r– 1 root root 544123 2012-12-10 17:28 puppet_apply_HDP1_James.log
    -rw-r–r– 1 root root 12004 2012-12-10 17:29 puppet_master_HDP1_James.log
    -rw-r—– 1 root root 7029 2012-12-10 17:29 puppet_masterhttp_HDP1_James.log

Could you please kindly give me a hand?

    Best Regards.
    James Chang

This means that yum can not retrieve several packages, usually points to bad network.

Check with the following post on what to do to preinstall packages manually:

    Thank you!

    James,
there is not much information in your last post…
Could you use check.sh script and upload results as described?
We can look at the resulted file and give you explanation and steps to fix.

    Thank you!

    Dear Ted,
In step 1,after I submitted deploy button, it will run for abut 20 min then it show me failed!
I will try again(Actually, I have try more then 15 times ) in a new VM tomorrow, except the check.sh, is there any other tools or more detailed installation guide that can help user to debug more quickly?

    Best Regards.

    Hi Ted,

I have check my /etc/hosts file, as following:
    [root@HadoopHDP1 ~]# cat /etc/hosts
    127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
    ::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6
    10.1.112.172 HadoopHDP1.tw.trendnet.org HadoopHDP1
    [root@HadoopHDP1 ~]# hostname -f
    HadoopHDP1.tw.trendnet.org
    [root@HadoopHDP1 ~]#

Is there something wrong for testing HDP1 under VMware vSphere 5.0 in pseudo distribution mode?
    It’s still failed!

    Any other suggestion?

    Best Regards.

    Hi James,

    Thanks for trying HDP.

I just looked over your logs. It looks like you haven’t added your computer to the /etc/hosts file, so the hostname can’t be resolved. If you fix that you should be able to get further with the installation.

    Thanks again,

    Ted.
