    I installed Virtualbox on an AMD CPU laptop running Windows 8.1 (<- my way of seeking atonement for Lent).

    When attempting to start up the 2.1 image, I receive the error: “AMD-V is not available (VER_SVM_NO_SVM)”
    and the details: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine HDP 2.1 Technical Preview.

    AMD-V is not available. (VERR_SVM_NO_SVM).

    Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
    Component: Console
    Interface: IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}

    Is the VM image perhaps a binary suitable for Intel processors only?
    One thing I do notice is that the image is for Ubuntu 32-bit, whereas a previous image for Sandbox 1.2 is for Red Hat 64-bit

    Note that I had previously run Sandbox 1.2 on Virtualbox on this machine, although more lately I’ve been using Hyper-V.

    Ignore my previous post.

    Apparently this is a contention issue where Hyper-V won’t play nice with other hypervisors, and therefore needs to be disabled.
