    Hello All,

I am new to YARN and catching up with blogs and white papers. I wanted to understand if HDFS is mandatory for YARN to be functional? In other words, can YARN work without HDFS assuming that we have some other distributed storage tiers under the hood that manages data layer.

    Hi Vijay,

Most YARN clusters are running in production with HDFS as the underlying distributed storage layer. That being said, HDFS is not a dependency for YARN.
