Hortonworks and NetApp Expand Strategic Relationship with Resell Agreement to Bring Innovative Storage Options for Enterprise Hadoop
Organizations can now Benefit from Hortonworks Data Platform Validated
on NetApp E-Series for Next-Generation Storage Solutions
PALO ALTO, CA—June 26, 2013—Hortonworks today announced the expansion of its strategic relationship with NetApp by putting in place a reseller agreement, enabling NetApp to resell Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), a 100-percent open source data platform powered by Apache Hadoop. Through this reseller agreement, it will be even easier for organizations to consume and leverage Hadoop on NetApp E-Series storage systems as a key component of their next generation data architecture.

At the engineering level, NetApp and Hortonworks are working together to create new storage solutions for Hadoop that integrate seamlessly with NetApp E-Series storage systems. The joint development efforts will further expand the Apache Hadoop ecosystem and offer enterprises more choices as NetApp storage systems now integrate with Hortonworks’ 100-percent open source data platform.
“As the Apache Hadoop ecosystem continues to mature, enterprises that require next-generation big data analytics functionality will need storage that is highly-available, cost-efficient and optimized for high-performance tasks,” said Brendon Howe, vice president, Product and Solutions Marketing, NetApp. “NetApp is committed to the continued innovation of creating an enterprise-class storage infrastructure for Hadoop-based solutions that is tailored to process data-intensive workloads and produce relevant business insights.”
Built and packaged by the core architects of Apache Hadoop, HDP includes all of the necessary components to refine and explore new data sources, and find new business insights. It is increasingly becoming a core component of enterprise data management systems as it allows organizations to capture, process and share data in any format and at scale. Together with NetApp, the ecosystem-friendly platform will further the development of integrated solutions that lead to innovative storage solutions for enterprise-class Hadoop.
“Hortonworks is excited to partner with NetApp to enable interoperable, scalable and efficient storage solutions,” said Shaun Connolly, vice president, corporate strategy, Hortonworks. “Together we’ll drive Hadoop adoption and keep the community and ecosystem healthy and growing as we’re both strong advocates of an open analytics ecosystem.”
