BlueData Partners with Hortonworks to Make Big Data Accessible to All Enterprises

BlueData™, a new Hortonworks Certified Technology Partner, is a pioneer in Big Data private clouds that help enterprises create a self-service cloud experience on premise. BlueData has been recently certified with Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP).

BlueData’s Director of Business Development, Rashmi Gopinath, describes the interworking and advantages of the BlueData EPIC™ solution with HDP.

Last week BlueData announced the launch of EPIC™ Enterprise, a Big Data private cloud solution, and its subsequent certification on Hortonworks Data Platform. We are democratizing big data by streamlining and simplifying big data infrastructure and eliminating complexity as a barrier to adoption. The EPIC solution is powered by our patent-pending technology, including DataTapTM and IOBoostTM, which eliminate time-consuming data movement and unnecessary data duplication without compromising performance. These benefits are expanded to big data by allowing enterprises to create, modify, and delete virtual Hadoop clusters on demand akin to managing virtual machines. With EPIC, enterprises can simultaneously run multiple Big Data clusters including MR2/YARN, Hive and HBase with automated policy-based scheduling and self-provisioning on the same infrastructure.

EPIC™ transforms physical infrastructure into an agile and flexible on premise cloud platform for virtual HDP (Hadoop) clusters. HDP YARN enabled clusters can be created instantly with the click of a button.

We enable the following unique capabilities that leverage HDP through BlueData EPIC’s user interface:

  • Creation and management of multiple tenants on a physical cluster to enable quota management, data isolation, and security across various functional groups.
  • Creation of multiple virtual HDP clusters to run different workloads like Hive or HBase, or run different versions of HDP (2.0 and 1.3) on the same physical cluster.
  • Submission of various Big Data MapReduce jobs on-demand using Pig, Hive and Hue scripts.
  • Creation of a DataTap Connector to remote file systems such as NFS or GlusterFS.

With DataTap, EPIC™ can connect your HDP platform to existing data storage locations on your corporate network. This reduces or even eliminates the need to copy large volumes of data to and from the HDP clusters before and after running jobs, thus saving time and avoiding duplication of data copies into various clusters. Other benefits that EPIC™ provides to Hortonworks users include: increased business agility, streamlined operations, security and control over a multi-tenant Big Data infrastructure and accelerated cost savings of up to 70%.

BlueData is helping make Hadoop enterprise ready with a simple and flexible deployment alternative. BlueData is certified to integrate with Hortonworks Data Platform and together we can help our customers create Hadoop clusters in mere minutes to run their workloads immediately, accelerating the benefits of advanced, big data-based insight. We look forward to continuing our joint efforts to make it easier for enterprises of all sizes and shapes to derive value from open source Apache Hadoop.

—John Kreisa, vice president of strategic marketing at Hortonworks.

We are excited to announce our partnership with Hortonworks formally with the certification of BlueData on Hortonworks Data Platform. By working closely with Hortonworks, we will support and deliver BlueData platform to the HDP community and ensure ongoing compatibility of EPIC for enterprise Hadoop users.
