As we approach the opening bell on Nasdaq and another milestone for open source Apache Hadoop, we at Hortonworks want to thank those who have contributed deeply to this journey. We owe you – our customers – a huge thank you. Your active collaboration with us in the Apache Hadoop community has greatly impacted the trajectory of this platform for data management and has established a path for how thousands of other enterprises can successfully build a new open data architecture that brings all data under management.
We are tremendously excited about the possibilities ahead and owe a heartfelt thank you to the people who have helped us get here: our amazing customers, partners and supporters. To all of our earliest customers who believed in our vision; to our partners who worked closely with us to advance Apache Hadoop; to our community of developers whose contributions continue to propel the open platform; to our customers whose feedback, encouragement, and successes have driven us and finally; to our wonderful and growing team whose tireless work has helped propel us to where we are today: We cannot thank you enough.
It was only two and a half years ago when we had our very first conversations with folks like Mike Peterson from Neustar about evaluating our version 1.0 of the Hortonworks Data Platform. Mike was an early believer in the power of open source Apache Hadoop and HDP to help Neustar bring all their data under management in a single data lake, whereby they could gain much broader insights into their business than ever before. The insights they gained when they moved from analyzing 1% of their data to 100% of their data, all while saving money, provided Neustar with new growth engines for their business.
Every day since then, we’ve been laser focused on anticipating and responding to our ever-expanding scope of customers like TrueCar and visionary leaders like John Williams who use Hadoop as a core backbone in their data architecture, all while working within the Apache community to deliver the foundational technology their data strategies are built upon.
To ALL of our early customers: Thank You. Your foresight and support continues to inspire our development team to see new ways of innovating the core of Apache Hadoop, which is essential to the success of the broader ecosystem.
When we began working with Debashis Saha at eBay, he was quick to point out the depth of their experience with Apache Hadoop, and he wanted to know how we could help them. Since migrating to HDP, eBay and Hortonworks have collaborated deeply across the two engineering teams to deliver many new innovations into open source Apache Hadoop.
As a result of the co-development work we have been doing with Microsoft since 2012, we were able to effectively demonstrate the value of working together to jointly engineer open source Apache Hadoop by delivering new innovations around interactive query, cloud integration, Windows support, Azure support, etc.
To Best Buy and others: Congratulations to you for working with us and Microsoft to push the limits of how our platform aligns with all of your existing systems. Our partnership with Microsoft is stronger than ever and we’re mutually committed to continuing to improve the way customers can get the most out of our jointly engineered solutions.
At Hadoop Summit Europe 2014 in April, I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with customers such as Centrica, EDF, Spotify and HSBC. It has been gratifying to see how blue chip companies, such as Centrica, have been able to dramatically improve their business insights, while simplifying their data architecture and lowering their costs. They have advanced quickly from new users of Apache Hadoop to a highly experienced team that others in the industry look to for guidance.
While today’s IPO represents a milestone in our company’s history, it is also a once-in-a-career moment to reiterate our mission to every current and future customer. Hortonworks (ticker: HDP) is here to continue to drive the innovation in Apache Hadoop while establishing Hadoop as the foundational technology which powers your modern enterprise data architecture.
