EMC Chooses Hortonworks For Its Exclusive Top-level Partner Program

With new types of data driving growth and competitive advantage as never before, it’s crucial to implement the right solution for your data lake. Power and performance are important, of course, as are security and efficiency, but more fundamentally, you also need to be sure it’s going to work as advertised. That’s where the EMC Business Partner Program for Technology comes in, helping customers find industry-leading technologies that are optimized, validated and certified with EMC technologies. Today, we’re pleased to announce that Hortonworks has been selected for the highest level of this program as an EMC Select Partner. That’s good news for us and EMC, and it’s great news for our joint customers. Here’s why.

The first thinemc_selectg to know is that the Select Partner designation is highly exclusive. Partners cannot just sign up for this program; EMC carefully chooses only the best companies in the market, and performs extensive engineering, testing and validation to ensure the best results for their customers. We’re proud to have earned our Select Partner status and excited about what it’ll mean for the industry.

Under our expanded relationship, EMC will resell Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) through its own sales organization and its channel partners, expanding our market reach so we can help even more companies achieve their Big Data objectives. It’s a win for EMC and its channel, too, because it makes it possible for them to offer the industry’s only 100-percent open source data platform powered by Apache Hadoop.

But what really matters is what it means for the companies who use our combined solution. HDP and EMC Isilon running the OneFS operating system have been validated and certified as a complete, robust solution that customers can use to seamlessly deploy an Open Enterprise Hadoop platform for advanced analytics and diverse scale-out data processing workloads.

That means EMC customers can now work through their known and trusted EMC advisors to expand their data architecture with HDP to run powerful new Big Data analytics applications, and to expand the data sources available to their existing ones. By combining HDP and EMC Isilon in a single, integrated, massively scalable solution, you can implement Big Data storage with enterprise-grade analytics capabilities to:

  • Speed time to insights through multiple protocol-level access mechanisms that help optimize performance
  • Improve storage utilization and cost efficiency through friction-free scalability in smaller steps proportionate to data growth, with data tiered according to value
  • Eliminate silos of storage by consolidating data from multiple islands into one single storage system based on Isilon OneFS
  • Protect enterprise data by using the proven Reed-Solomon erasure encoding algorithm rather than RAID to provide a level of protection that goes far beyond traditional storage systems

EMC’s decision to invite Hortonworks into the highest level of its Business Partner Program for Technology Connect program is just the latest sign of the foundational role of Open Enterprise Hadoop in the Big Data revolution. By making it easier than ever to design, evaluate and procure your entire Big Data infrastructure, our partnership will help you put its insights to work faster and better. That’s the best news yet.

Mohammed Rafi says:

So what will happened to Pivotal, will EMC stop selling Pivotal Big Data suit? How do someone differentiate Pivotal HD vs HDP ? Pretty much the same under the skin except few components.

Or EMC is about to acquire HT like they did in 2010 with Greenplum ??
