Hadoop Summit Europe Highlights How Data is Transforming the World of Business

I’m packing my bags for the Hadoop Summit this Wednesday and Thursday in Dublin Ireland.   This is the fourth Summit in Europe and it promises to be bigger and better than ever with dozens of sponsors, 1200+ attendees, 110 speakers and 85 sessions.  If you’re going — see you there!

This year, Hadoop Summit has evolved to match the continued explosive pace of change in the industry and now includes sessions for attendees with both business and technical backgrounds.

Pundits are now saying this is the year the Internet of Things has gone mainstream.  Billions of devices are generating more data, and more diverse types of data, than ever before.  Consumer expectations of instant rich access to this data has also gone through the roof.  Driven by this rapid expansion of data, the Hadoop ecosystem continues to grow and thrive, and a much much wider audience has found that it needs to learn how to find, capture, store and analyze petabytes of data-at-rest and data-in-motion in their organization, supply chains and ecosystems, and turn it into the few megabytes of data that matters to them and their customers.

Nowhere is more suited to learn both the essentials and the advanced insights of how to do this than Hadoop Summit, with community vetted practical guidance for novices as well as experienced practitioners of Hadoop.  This year, there will also be a huge focus on the key technologies powering modern data apps and on the new types of value chain companies can create to transform their business, using next generation architectures like Connected Data Platforms.

In addition to the opportunity to network with a lot of your peers, customers and friends, here are some of the exciting things I’m personally watching out for:

  • Rob Bearden, CEO of Hortonworks talking about how ‘Data is Transforming the World of Business.’
  • Emer Coleman, Chair of the Open Data Governance Board, Ireland on “Social Imperatives of Big Data”
  • Michael Ferguson, Intelligent Business Strategies on “Organising The Data Lake – Information Governance In A Big Data World”
  • Rashim Gupta at Microsoft –  “Hadoop in the Cloud: Real World Lessons from Enterprise Customers”
  • Michael Bironneau – Open Energi “Powering a Virtual Power Station with Big Data”
  • A “Future of Data” panel in which major European businesses from a wide variety of industries will discuss their journey with Connected Data Platforms, from POC to production.
  • We’ll also be unwrapping some of the latest innovations in the next generation Hortonworks Connected Data Platform (HDF and HDP).

Beyond this, there are in total 7 tracks and 85 sessions from industry experts, business leaders, architects, data scientists and Hadoop developers will share use cases and success stories, best practices, cautionary tales and technology insights.  Such as:

  • Apache Committer Insights
  • Data Science Applications for Hadoop
  • Hadoop Governance, Security, Deployment and Operations
  • Hadoop Application Development: Dev Languages, Scripting, SQL and NoSQL
  • Applications of Hadoop and the Data-Driven Business
  • The Future of Apache Hadoop
  • Hadoop and the Internet of Things

Summits are proof positive that the Hadoop Community is active, thriving and growing. I’m also proud that we at Hortonworks, and our partners, remain at the epicenter of this vibrant industry with cutting edge experts, training and platforms that provide immense value to our customers.
Join the excitement.  All you have to do is to subscribe, join , download the software, train and start to engage to get the value out of your ecosystem of data. We’ll help you all along your journey.  Hadoop Summit is great place to start, to catch up, or get ahead of the curve.  See you on Wednesday!
