HBaseCon 2015 is Here

It is that time of the year again!

Annual Apache HBase conference, HBaseCon 2015, is around the corner, and as always, it is packed with action and illuminating talks.

The conference is this Thursday, May 7th. As in the previous years, there will be 4 tracks covering Operations, Internals, Ecosystem and Use Cases.

Here are a few sessions that I am personally excited about:

This year, SQL solutions are well represented. James and Maryann will talk about Phoenix, which is gaining a lot of traction. Hive over HBase, Apache Kylin and Trafodion will also have their sessions. Lastly, there will be a SQL-over-HBase smackdown panel, moderated by our own Julian Hyde, which should be quite informative.

“HBase Performance Tuning” and the “Taming GC Pauses for Large Heaps” should be ones to keep handy as reference material. Even if you do not attend, you should check the videos afterwards.

Flurry, Yahoo, Bloomberg, Pinterest, Xiomi, Flipboard, FINRA, CyberAgent, and RocketFuel will each share their use cases and how they run HBase in production at the Operations and Use cases tracks. There will also be a “Smooth Operators” panel. Apart from the best title this year, it should be one not to miss to learn from the experience from Google, Pinterest, Facebook, Bloomberg, Flipboard, and Dropbox.

HBase over YARN, HBase over Mesos, and the HBase Azure talks will be the ones to attend if you are interested in elastic and cloud deployments. It is exciting to see these projects mature.

Lastly, Solomon and I will host “Meet HBase-1.0 and the new Client API” talk. If you want to learn about the 1.0 release and API changes, feel free to drop by.

Of course there are many more interesting sessions than I have cherry-picked above. Take a look at the agenda and sessions to plan your day.

Moreover, if you are in town for the conference, don’t miss out the Phoenix meetup, which will happen Tuesday May 5th at Hortonworks HQ.

If you have not yet done so, please register. If you are at the conference, feel free to catch us there if you want to learn what we are up to.

See you at the event!
