Today we are excited to announce a deepening of our strategic partnership with HP . This news builds on the reseller partnership that we established in 2013 enabling HP to resell the Hortonworks Data Platform. It also allows us to build on the HP AllianceOne ConvergedSystems Partner of the Year Award that we received at the recent HP Discover 2014 conference for our strategic partnership.
Given the rapid adoption of Enterprise Hadoop as a core component of a modern data architecture combined with the fact that HP is the world’s leading server vendor in terms of shipments AND revenues according to IDC – meaning a significant number of those Hadoop nodes are being deployed with HP technologies – it’s hardly surprising that we’ve been collaborating closely.
Today’s announcement is a new chapter in our relationship and covers the following 4 primary areas:
A key element of this relationship includes a $50M equity investment by HP in Hortonworks that was announced today and symbolizes the extent of our commitment to collaborate on addressing the business and technology needs of our customers and the broader big data marketplace.
Both organizations are committing engineering resources to integrate the Hortonworks Data Platform with key HP technologies including the marquee HP HAVEn offering. A key element of this commitment is to certify HP Vertica as YARN Ready – signifying that it has been certified to integrate deeply with YARN, the architectural center of Enterprise Hadoop and the Hortonworks Data Platform.
Achieving broad distribution is key to accelerating the adoption of Enterprise Hadoop and with this agreement HP and Hortonworks will also work collaboratively on joint go-to-market initiatives. HP can resell support for the Hortonworks Data Platform and our support organizations provide a seamless support experience for our joint customers.
This strengthened relationship between HP and Hortonworks will also include a seat on the Hortonworks board of directors, which will be filled by HP Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Martin Fink. Given Martin’s current duties overseeing HP Labs/R&D and leading HP’s cloud strategy, as well as his leadership in HP’s overall open-source and Linux strategies, it’s clearly an understatement to say that Martin has the right mix of experience that will make him an excellent addition to the Hortonworks board.
We are deeply committed to enabling Apache Hadoop as a comprehensive enterprise data platform delivered completely in open source as the Hortonworks Data Platform. We have been 100% consistent about that mission since the founding of our company, and we remain focused on enabling the ecosystem of end-users and vendors to incorporate Hadoop as a component of the modern data architecture.
