Insights from the Insurance Company

At Hadoop Summit San Jose we are excited to be joined by industry experts from the Insurance Industry. Here are just a few of the business focussed sessions, but you need to register to attend Hadoop Summit.

Disrupting Insurance with Advanced Analytics — Next Generation Actuarial Science

Speakers: Cindy Maike from Hortonworks and Sanjeev Kumar from Saama Consulting

The Motorists Insurance Group needed to manage auto insurance by state in order to analyze cause and influences on customer retention rates. This involved accessing and analyzing customer data stored across disparate systems, with only small amounts of data able to be accessed. As a result data insights were often incomplete and out of date. In addition, because most of the data was sitting in a legacy mainframe system, it required specific skills and expertise to extract it to make it usable. In today’s disruptive environment, it’s important that a carrier differentiate itself not only by providing the best service and product, but also by establishing lifelong relationships with its customers. The speed with which we will be able to understand our customer needs based on insights from new methods of leveraging data to drive business insights is key leapfrog the competition. Motorist Insurance, Saama and Hortonworks discuss how an industry born on data and analytics is at it again, taking insurance to the next level.
