Hadoop Meetup: The Key To Good Decisions is Good Information

Apache YARN, Apache Slider, and Docker

Join us June 19 at 6 pm at the Hilton Fort Worth, Texas for an educational workshop hosted by Hortonworks and Sendero Business Services. The topic is “The Key To Success is Consistently Making Good Decisions & The Key To Good Decisions is Good Information.” The speaker is Don Hilborn, Solutions Engineer at Hortonworks.

Don will introduce the paradigm of

  • Efficiency – double processing in Hadoop on the same hardware while providing predictable performance and quality of service; and
  • Resource sharing – providing a stable common set of shared resources across multiple, coordinated workloads in Hadoop.

He will discuss the philosophy behind Apache YARN and YARN applications including Apache Slider and Docker. Apache Slider provides a set of platform services that enables other applications to quickly run in the YARN environment and offers four key benefits:

  • Simplified on-boarding of existing apps to Hadoop YARN
  • Full capabilities of a YARN application
  • Integrated participation in enterprise Hadoop
  • Automated lifecycle management

Docker has the potential to provide the next generation of virtualization at efficiency untouched by today’s hypervisor model.

Apache YARN ResourceManager and Apace Hadoop NodeManager will also be included in the presentation.
