Today we announced Microsoft Azure HDInsight as our Premier Connected Data Platforms cloud solution, providing customers Apache™ Hadoop® as a fully managed cloud service. The announcement is very timely as this week, Hortonworks and Microsoft are celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hadoop at the Hadoop Summit 2016. Highlighting HDInsight as our premier cloud offering helps emphasize the strategic partnership we’ve had with Microsoft for the past four years spanning both joint engineering and go to market solutions, allowing us to provide our customers the flexibility they need to future proof their architecture as more workloads move to the cloud.
With our hyper connected world, modern organizations are embracing a cloud-first approach for deployment and management of data workloads. According to a recent Forrester report, The Forrester Wave™: Big Data Hadoop Cloud Solutions, Q2 2016, Microsoft received the highest score for current offering and strategy and “enterprises of all types and sizes are increasingly embracing the cloud as an important catapult for their business technology agenda.”
Azure HDInsight delivers Hadoop and Spark powered by Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP™). “We are excited to continue our strategic partnership, providing customers true hybrid interoperability and choice with our market leading offering to deploy Hadoop and Spark in the cloud” said Tiffany Wissner, Sr. Director Microsoft Cloud and Enterprise Business
Recent updates to Azure HDInsight, built on HDP, include:
· Enterprise Spark at Scale: Spark for Azure HDInsight is generally available now and includes fully managed Spark service from Hortonworks that is secure, scalable and enterprise-ready.
· R Server for HDInsight in the cloud powered by Spark makes the Spark integration available both on-premises and in the cloud and will be generally available in this summer.
