Community Marketing Manager

Location: Santa Clara, CA.

The Hortonworks Community team is looking for a Community Manager to help drive the data developer, analyst, admin and data scientist experience for a growing collection of big data Apache open sources projects.  This person’s charter is to improve the overall customer experience by creating a place where customers and the extended community can post questions, get answers, browse technical articles, interact with Hortonworks solutions experts, and talk to their peers. The goal of the community is to increase brand and customer loyalty.

The Community Manager will help implement Hortonwork’s online community strategy, manage engagement and interactivity with it's audience, and foster community spirit. You will have the opportunity to use your initiative and desire to create a world-class user experience. It’s also the opportunity to be part of a team that’s creating the digital destination for open source big data community to find support, share successes, and call home.

Support the platform and work directly with developers across the company to resolve technical issues. Gather and share developer feedback to help improve on-boarding and the overall development platform.

  • The Community Manager serves as the primary point of contact for the Hortonworks Community Connection community and provide initiatives that use community, social networking, gamification, and other technologies to increase community participation.
  • Work with community team to develop and execute community strategy.
  • Build trust and relationships with community members through modeling collaborative behaviors, daily moderation, and facilitating online and in-person events.
  • Be a key connector between customers and staff to help answer product questions.
  • Create, manage, and curate community content.
  • Generate regular analytic reports including community health and content success metrics.
  • Champion and support staff participation in the community through training, regular meetings, and ongoing advocacy.
  • Maintain knowledge of community platforms; stay current on community management trends and best practices.
  • Champion technical enhancements and work with platform vendor to address technical issues as needed.
  • Partner with social media, web, and other internal teams to integrate community strategy within the company and our customer experience.
  • Collaborate and lead the HCC moderators to incorporate feedback.
  • Collaborate with Hortonworks product, engineering, support and marketing teams to make it as easy as possible for customers to adopt and use Hortonworks data platforms.
  • Develop strategic community plans that increase engagement and membership

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in marketing, business, computer science or related field.
  • 5+ years of broad marketing experience, including managing online communities.
  • Passionate about big data and open source.
  • Experience using REST APIs to manage and retrieve data.
  • Knowledge of applying gamification principles to guide human behavior.
  • Excellent communicator in a variety of formats: written, verbal, in person, and online, including presenting and preparing digital content (blogs, online copy, etc.).
  • Proven track record staying current on emerging social media tools, technologies, trends and developments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of one or more major community platforms (Jive, Yammer, Lithium, Salesforce, AnswerHub). Experience with AnswerHub support forums is a huge plus.
