Sandbox Technical Marketing Engineer (Marketing Manager)

The Hortonworks Community team is looking for a Sandbox Technical Marketing Engineer(TME) to help drive the data developer, analyst, admin and data scientist experience for a growing collection of big data Apache open sources projects.  

 
This person’s charter is to improve the overall customer experience by making it easy to get started with Hortonworks products (ie HDP, HDF, …) via a Sandbox virtual machine.  This person will also be developing getting-started tutorials for new releases and maintaining the ecosystem of tutorials based on the sandboxes.  
 
Our overall community goal is to increase brand and customer loyalty. The Sandbox TME  will help implement Hortonworks’ getting-started strategy, report on assets, leverage the insights from the reporting to build future assets and foster community spirit. You will have the opportunity to use your initiative and desire to create a world-class user experience. It’s also the opportunity to be part of a team that’s creating the digital destination for the open source big data community to find support, share successes, and call home.

Responsibilities
  • The Sandbox TME serves as the primary
  • Point of contact for the Hortonworks Sandbox and tutorials and drives initiatives that use community, social networking, gamification, and other technologies to increase community participation. 
  • Work with community team to develop and execute community strategy. 
  • Build trust and relationships with community, development and Solution engineers through modeling collaborative behaviors, daily HCC moderation, and actively responding to github issues and pull requests. 
  • Generate regular analytic reports including tutorial health and content success metrics. 
  • Champion and support staff participation in the community through training, regular meetings, and ongoing advocacy.
  • Maintain knowledge of community platforms; stay current on community management trends and best practices.
  • Champion technical enhancements and work with platform vendor to address technical issues as needed.
  • Partner with social media, web, and other internal teams to integrate community strategy within the company and our customer experience. 
  • Collaborate and lead the HCC Sandbox moderators to incorporate feedback.
  • Collaborate with Hortonworks product, engineering, support and marketing teams to make it as easy as possible for customers to adopt and use Hortonworks data platforms. 
  • Develop strategic community plans that increase engagement and membership. 
Job requirements
  • Bachelor’s in marketing, business, computer science or related field. 
  • 2+ years of broad marketing experience 
  • 5+ years of database or data engineering experience 
  • Management and/or team lead experience is a plus 
  • Passionate about big data and open source 
  • Familiar with Hadoop Ecosystem components like Hive, Pig, Spark, Zeppelin, Ambari, Atlas, Ranger, … 
  • Developer Experience with SQL, Python and Java 
  • Experience cloud AWS, Azure, and GCE 
  • Experience with Github management and markdown 
  • Experience with WordPress 
  • Experience with JIRA 
  • Experience using REST APIs to manage and retrieve data 
  • Experience with VMWare, VirtualBox, and Docker 
  • Experience with Unix and Shell Scripting 
  • Experience with developing entry level tutorials for new and bleeding technology 
  • Knowledge of applying gamification principles to guide human behavior 
  • Excellent communicator in a variety of formats: written, verbal, in person, and online, including presenting and preparing digital content (blogs, online copy, etc.).
