Title: Law Clerk (Contract & Part-time)

Work hard and have fun working with Hortonworks’ legal department! If you are a law student with a desire to work with business and legal teams– this is the position for you! We are looking for a bright, motivated, flexible individual with a keen attention to detail and ability to multi-task and engaged self-starter who exercises sound judgment, asks thoughtful questions, creates solutions, and can complete assignments while working independently or as part of a team.  During the clerkship you will develop an understanding of the operation of an in-house legal organization. You’ll get a chance to work on with a diverse group of people and business units.

Role Summary:

Hortonworks, the distributor of Hortonworks Data Platform, a 100% open source enterprise grade distribution of Apache Hadoop, seeks an Law Clerk to support our Sales organization and be responsible for reviewing and compiling legal risk provisions of a broad range of commercial contracts (e.g., Master Services Agreements, Professional Services Agreements, Reseller Agreements, etc.) ensuring that contracts are in compliance with legal, regulatory and company policies.

Job assignments and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contract review and summaries.
  • Assistance with organizing/storing contract summaries.
  • Updating legal databases and intranet information.
  • Analyzing multiple types of agreements and paraphrasing it into succinct summaries.
  • Updating and identifying process improvements
  • Providing advice to client contacts on legal issues.

Clerkship details:

  • Length of clerkship: School Year
  • Part time: 20 hours per week

Basic Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of at least one year of law school at an ABA approved law school.

Job Requirements: Successful candidates will possess the following:

  • A high attention to detail and be resourceful, flexible, articulate, and hard-working.
  • Flexibility and the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and analytical skills.
  • Interest in learning how an in-house legal department operates.
  • Grace under pressure and a sense of humor.
  • Corporate or law firm work experience and an active participant in school activities is preferred.
  • Currently enrolled at an ABA approved law school.

A writing sample or law school transcript may be required as part of the interviewing process.

Candidates for this specific role must have the legal right to work for Hortonworks, Inc. in the United States, without the need for Hortonworks, Inc. sponsorship.
