Introduction to Spark with HDP Hands-On Workshop

We are super excited to offer this hand-on Spark workshop led by Saptak Sen, Technical Product Manager for Hortonworks.  Since it is a workshop, we will have it in a Galvanize classroom and it will run 2.5 hours.  30 minutes for networking and setup and 2 hours for instruction. Please be prompt.

This workshop will provide a hands on introduction to Spark using the HDP Sandbox on students’ personal machines. There will be a short lecture that includes an introduction to Spark, the Spark components used in the lab, and a demo. The lecture will be followed by lab time to work through the lab exercises and ask questions. This lab will use the following Spark and Hadoop components:  Spark, HDFS, YARN, ORC, SQL, HBase, and Ambari User Views. You will learn how to move data into HDFS using Spark APIs, create Hive table, explore the data with Spark and SQL, transform the data and then issue some SQL queries.
