Total Economic Impact Study

This could be the most valuable actionable intelligence you ever see.

Sometimes it’s good to get back to the basics. The day-to-day queries, data ingestion and analysis, and allocation of storage all consume substantial financial resources. But perhaps the most insidious resource they devour is an organization’s ability to stop and see the big picture. How much is it all costing? Is the performance you’re getting worth the cost?

To find the answer to this question, Forrester Consulting was commissioned to conduct The Total Economic Impact(TM) (TEI) of Hortonworks and examine the potential return on investment (ROI) enterprises may realize by deploying Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP).

The economic impact of using HDP? Jaw-dropping.

Forrester Consulting surveyed 32 companies that use HDP and Hadoop to create a composite organization that reflected the most common experiences of the surveyed companies. Here are some of the key findings:

  • Increased productivity of data scientists, analysts, and operators by an average of 30%.
Survey respondents told Forrester that using HDP improved the productivity of data scientists and analysts by 33% and that of engineers and operators by 27%.
  • Reduced cost of storage using commodity hardware by 33%.
The smallest reduction indicated was 4% and the largest was a 70% reduction in storage. The total cost benefit over three years was more than $5.2 million.
  • Increased revenue by using Hadoop to create predictive models about customers.
Respondents indicated that they could use HDP to build predictive models to improve customer retention by an average of 42%, with one organization reporting an improvement of 95%.
