Hortonworks Honored on Information Management’s “40 Vendors We’re Watching” List

Sunnyvale, Calif.—October 16, 2012— Hortonworks, a leading contributor to Apache Hadoop projects, announced today that it has been selected as one of Information Management’s third annual “40 Vendors We’re Watching.” The list spotlights big data companies, real-time analytics providers, cloud mash-up developers and other innovative software firms that are changing the way enterprises manage information.

Beginning with an initial list of more than 100 companies and with the help of a dozen leading IT professional firms and analysts, Information Management editors extensively researched each vendor’s products and sales, overall IT buying trends and technology adoption rates. The 40 vendors were ultimately selected based on their ability to deliver technologies that offer practical solutions to IT managers charged with exploiting new opportunities for their organizations.

“Apache Hadoop has quickly become an influential and valuable resource within the big data management industry,” said Information Management Editor-in-Chief Julie Langenkamp-Muenkel. “Just over a year old, Hortonworks is already big in the tight big data/Hadoop market, with high-profile rollouts and partnerships as well as dedication to the open source community, earning them a spot on our list.”

Hortonworks is a leading vendor of Apache Hadoop—the open source standard for big data storage, management and analysis—boasting many of the platform’s original engineers and architects. The Company has experienced tremendous growth since its inception in 2011 and continues to support Apache Hadoop’s mainstream presence, increasing adoption among enterprises and technology vendors alike. The Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) is the industry’s only 100-percent open source platform powered by Apache Hadoop, which provides the enterprise with a proven and comprehensive, next-generation data management infrastructure for harnessing the power of big data.

“In today’s world of exponentially growing data, comprehensive storage, management and analysis of both structured and unstructured information is imperative for the overall success of the enterprise and the business,” said Rob Bearden, CEO, Hortonworks. “Hortonworks is honored to be selected for Information Management’s ‘40 Vendors We’re Watching’ list. This recognition provides tremendous validation of our unwavering efforts to make Apache Hadoop easy to use, easy to consume and a viable data platform for the enterprise so that it can be the center of the next generation data architecture.”
