Hortonworks Recognized as the Big Data Leader

Apache Hadoop Innovation and Ecosystem Partnerships Leads to Ventana Research

Technology Innovation Award as Top Big Data Company

PALO ALTO, Calif.—August 15, 2013—Hortonworks, a leading contributor to and provider of enterprise Apache™ Hadoop®, today announced that it has been named Ventana Research’s 2013 Technology Innovation award winner for Big Data. The industry recognition solidifies Hortonworks’ position as a pioneer of enabling the modern data architecture to include Apache Hadoop and the driving member behind the Apache Hadoop ecosystem.

The Ventana Research Technology Innovation awards recognize IT vendors in 26 business and technology categories who have optimized the computing potential of their applications and technology, resulting in better efficiency, productivity and performance. The awards were introduced in 2012 as an accompaniment to Ventana Research’s Leadership Awards. Last year’s Big Data award winner was Teradata, a Hortonworks partner. The 2013 winners will be honored at this year’s Ventana Research Business Technology Innovation Summit, being held on November 11th & 12th at the Swissotel in Chicago, IL.

“The awards committee evaluated the big data landscape to determine this year’s Big Data Technology Innovation award winner,” said Mark Smith, CEO & chief research officer, Ventana Research.  “We congratulate Hortonworks for its visionary and transformative applications of the Apache Hadoop platform. The technology delivers real business value to its customers. The company has exhibited a high level of expertise in the Hadoop market and truly advanced the computing potential of its enterprise data platform, making it a clear innovator of big data technology.”

A backbone of the modern data architecture, HDP is an enterprise-grade platform that collects massive amounts of data, from website clickstreams to machine and sensor data, helping organizations turn big data analytics into the next competitive differentiator. With an ever-growing ecosystem of partners, HDP is now being integrated across enterprise IT architectures to deliver valuable business insights.

“Hortonworks is honored to be named the Ventana Big Data Technology Innovation award winner,” said Rob Bearden, CEO, Hortonworks. “This prestigious honor is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees, who are delivering innovative Apache Hadoop-based advances that are the foundation of the next-generation data architecture. We continue to work with the entire Hadoop ecosystem of partners and customers to ensure the most enterprise-ready stable distribution of the open source platform for big data processing and management.”
