Hortonworks SmartSense Brings Preventative Maintenance for Big Data to Customers

SANTA CLARA, Calif., — October 22, 2015 — Hortonworks, Inc. (NASDAQ: HDP), the leader in Open Enterprise Hadoop, is delivering proactive issue resolution and personalized Hadoop cluster insights to all of its Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP™) support subscription customers through its SmartSense™ technology. For Hortonworks’ support subscription customers, Hortonworks SmartSense delivers the industry’s first proactive monitoring features to build, manage and scale a Hadoop cluster.

Enterprise customers heavily rely on HDP for business critical applications, making it essential for them to get ahead of and resolve cluster issues rapidly. Using Hortonworks SmartSense, enterprise customers can quickly receive insights and ongoing recommendations about cluster utilization and health, utilize log files and metrics for faster support case resolution to prevent configuration problems and optimize their clusters for capacity planning.

“Proactive cluster maintenance is paramount to enterprises running their business on big data,” said Scott Gnau, chief technology officer, Hortonworks. “With Hortonworks SmartSense, we are setting our customers up for success by keeping customers apprised of cluster health and resolving issues before they occur, ultimately reducing downtime.”

SmartSense uniquely enables Hortonworks’ support subscription customers to:

  • Quickly collect cluster diagnostic information
  • Provide concise and actionable recommendations to resource-constrained Hadoop operations staff
  • Enable Hadoop operations staff to get ahead of configuration problems before they result in cluster degradation or downtime
